چکیده

Recently, some studies linked the computational power of abstract computing systems based on multiset rewriting to models of Petri nets and the computation power of these nets to their topology. In turn, the computational power of these abstract computing devices can be understood by just looking at their topology, that is, information flow. Here we continue this line of research introducing J languages and proving that they can be accepted by place/transition systems whose underlying net is composed only of joins. Moreover, we investigate how J languages relate to other families of formal languages. In particular, we show that every J language can be accepted by a log n space-bounded non-deterministic Turing machine with a one-way read-only input. We also show that every J language has a semilinear Parikh map and that J languages and context-free languages (CFLs) are incomparable. For example, the CFL, {x#x | x ∈ {0,1}+}, is not a J language, but there are non-CFLs that are J languages.

Deterministic Fuzzy Automaton on Subclasses of Fuzzy Regular ω-Languages

In formal language theory, we are mainly interested in the natural language computational aspects of ω-languages. Therefore in this respect it is convenient to consider fuzzy ω-languages. In this paper, we introduce two subclasses of fuzzy regular ω-languages called fuzzy n-local ω-languages and Buchi fuzzy n-local ω-languages, and give some closure properties for those subclasses. We define a ...

Verifying Workflows with Cancellation Regions and OR-joins: An Approach Based on Invariants

The YAWL (Yet Another Workflow Language) workflow language supports the most frequent control-flow patterns found in the current workflow practice. As a result, most workflow languages can be mapped onto YAWL without loss of control-flow details, even languages allowing for advanced constructs such as cancellation regions and OR-joins. At the moment no analysis techniques are available for such...

Representation of Procedural Knowledge

A case is made for correcting a perceived imbalance between the usual ways of representing declarative and procedural knowledge. A proposed solution joins the traditional conceptual graph notation and elements of visual programming languages. The aim is to maintain the visual nature of both notations without greatly changing each one. N E W M E X I C O S T A T E U N I V E R S I T Y C O M P U T ...

Alternating Regular Tree Grammars in the Framework of Lattice-Valued Logic

In this paper, two different ways of introducing alternation for lattice-valued (referred to as {L}valued)  regular tree grammars and {L}valued top-down tree automata are compared. One is the way which defines the alternating regular tree grammar, i.e., alternation is governed by the non-terminals of the grammar and the other is the way which combines state with alternation. The first way is ta...
